- Condition: The dryer’s burner safety device has detected the failure of the pilot of the burner to ignite or loss of pilot after ignition.
- Alarm Action Taken: MINOR ALARM
- Component: Ultraviolet eye aka “mini-peeper” and Honeywell Burner Control.
- Location: The mini peeper is located up inside the dryer connected to the end cap of the burner that has the spark plug and pilot gas line connected to it. While the control unit is mounted inside the red control cabinet on the lower backing panel. This device is blue in color with a digital display on the face of the unit normally identified by the label “Honeywell Burner Control”
Tech tip: (Control is 115 vac, Mini-peeper 0-5 vdc)
The burner control unit monitors and controls several circuits of the burner. It works in conjunction with the mini-peeper to determine the presence of a pilot flame or not. The mini-peeper is monitoring for the presence of intense light that is created by a flame and reports back to the burner with a voltage when light is present.
The burner controls when the pilot solenoid opens and when the ignitor sparks as well as the clean air purge time and the time of ignition allowed before going into alarm. Once the pilot is safely established, it opens the main burner valve to ignite the entire burner
Tools Required for Service:
- Voltage/continuity meter
- Small standard blade screwdriver (to remove control unit from base)
- #2 Philips screwdriver (wiring terminals on base)
Potential Causes of this Alarm Condition:
- Mini-peeper eye dirty
- Faulty spark plug or ignitor wire
- Faulty pilot solenoid valve or no voltage to coil
- Faulty ignition transformer or no voltage to transformer
- Faulty wire to Mini-peeper
- No gas to spark plug, blockage at copper tubing at burner
- Shutoff valve to pilot section closed on fuel trane
